Exploring Space

Warm up Come up with a list of items that you would need to survive in space.

What’s it like to live in space? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TU9kffoAQ8U

1. What are three conditions that must be overcome so that people can live and work in space? -Vacuum -Temperature -Microgravity

2. Describe each of the three main parts of a space shuttle. 1. Crew Cabin- pressurized compartment where astronauts can live without oxygen tanks 2. Payload Bay- large open area to carry materials or a satellite. 3. Engines- used to steer and power the craft

3. How do space suits protect astronauts from extreme pressure and temperatures? Different layers help to regulate pressure and temperature Gold-coated visors protect astronauts from UV rays. Gloves keep hands warm
