What’s a Lifeguard? Lifeguard, Definition: An expert swimmer trained and employed to watch over other swimmers, as at a beach or swimming pool. Also called lifesaver.

Steps to becoming a lifeguard Total of 52 hours for 3 bronze awards + 40-60 hours for national lifeguard reward. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 16 hours for standard first aid.

Swim Patrol Taught basic first aid. Optional. 3 Levels: Rookie, Ranger, and Star. Non-vocational award.

Bronze Star A timed 400 m swim. Learn CPR. 10-12 hours. Develop decision making skills single and partners.

Bronze Medallion 18-20 hours. Minimum 13 y/o OR Bronze Star. A 500 m timed swim. Judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness

Emergency First Aid CPR Choking What to do for external bleeding Heart attack Etc.

Bronze Cross A timed 600 m swim. Recognized as an assistant lifeguard certificate in Ontario Regulation 565 governing public swimming pools. Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid certifications. 18-20 hours.

Standard First Aid 16 hours. More advanced first aid. Spinal injuries. Bone and joint injuries. Etc.

National Lifeguard/Award At least 16 years old at final evaluation. 40 for pool option, 20 for others. Pool Waterpark Waterfront Surf
