Presentation transcript:

Comparing Population Density over a century How did the distribution and settlement of people in the us change from 1900 to 2000?

1900 Why do people choose to live in the places that they live? What physical features might encourage (or discourage) people from living in an area? What else might influence people’s decisions to live in an given area? 2) In 1900, where did most people in the US live? 3) Why do you think most people lived in those areas? 4) Make a prediction-How do you think the population distribution of the US will have changed by 2000? Why did it change?

2000 Were your predictions about US population density correct? What surprises you about this map? 2) What major changes have taken place over the last 100 years with respect to population distribution in US? Why do you think that is? 3) The southwestern US is hot, arid, and generally not the kind of place that humans like to live. Why do you think so many people live there now? What allows humans to live in such an inhospitable environment?

In conclusion What factors MOST influence where humans live on the planet? How do you think technology affects human population distribution? As humans move from one area to another, what influence do you think that will that have on the places they leave? On the places they move to?
