First Day Art A 8.22.2017

Welcome Back to Art Appreciation (Art A) At the door you should’ve picked up: 12 pieces of 8x10 paper(normal size paper) 2 pieces of long paper One piece of little long paper Please be ready with all your papers for instructions when the bell rings We are going to make…a sketchbook!

Ready Looks like: Sounds like: Eyes forward Materials picked up and in front of you Phone away(preferably in your bag so the vibration doesn’t distract you) Sounds like: Lecture environment to start so that we all can hear instructions Questions, please ask, someone else probably has the same question as you

Agenda Gather supplies at the door Reminder of what being ready in class looks like and sounds like Go over book binding. Create two sketchbooks! Make a folder with your name on it and put it into the milk crate up front (put your sketchbooks inside). Class Challenge Who’s Mrs. Lyon and Who are all of you! Class survey and go over disclosure. Exit Ticket Questions about today?

Book Binding Types Section Sewn - Your most secure binding method. Here pages are folded together into sections (signatures). Each section is then sewn into the following section along the spine. The spine is then glued together for extra support and the cover then attached. A Section Sewn book, regardless of page count will be able to lay flat.

Studio Time Stitch your book and tie off. Draw pictures with ink Or Write text to decorate your book binding. Once done get a hanging file and name tag

Class Challenge Your class period get’s one crate to store your hanging folders The hanging folders need to be in alphabetical order by last name You have two minutes Can you get everyone’s hanging folder in the crate in order Ready?

Mrs. Lyon’s Teaching Thoughts about Art Class Learning needs to be fun, challenging, and applied Everyone and thing has value, treat it as such Self-awareness is crucial in art, being able to take risks, and challenge yourself is key

Lyon’s faults It’s challenging for me to spell It take me a few months to memorize names

Griffin Therapy dog  No food, candy, or drinks in class Let him chill on his matt in the back During studio time he will be walking around Greeting people at the door daily No whistling or calling his name - thanks

Who are all of you? Activity: Find something in common with everyone at your table Write it down on the whiteboard Pick someone to share it with the class

Quick FYIs Disclosures - get signed and bring back = extra credit Recycling, sink, trash, paper towels, band aids All art supplies you need for class will either be at your table, at the door to pick up or on the back counter Everyone will have a file folder for all their papers Tables and chairs - we move, they move Art work will stay in your class folder Hall Pass – you must have your planner to use them Not during lecture, critique, or demo time, only studio time Not during the 1st 10 min. or last 10 min. of class Only 3 per term, must sign back of planner Website! – www.classwithlyon.com & Remind app(sign-up) Questions?
