Drought

Drought in Australia Drought in Australia is defined as rainfall over a three-month period being in the lowest 10% of what has been recorded for that region in the past. Drought is a relative term and rainfall deficiencies need to be compared to typical rainfall patterns. Drought in Australia is defined in relation to a rainfall deficiency in farm land and is determined by percentage analysis applied to a certain area. A drought happens when there is no rain for a long time. Rivers and streams dry up. Plants and animals can die in a drought. People have less water in a drought.

Impact of Droughts Brainstorm

Impact of droughts Crops can’t grow well Ships can’t travel on waterways Clay soil shrinks, causing structural damage People suffer stress because their lives are severely affected Endangered species are wiped out There is little or no fresh drinking water for people or animals People move from country to towns Farmers struggle to earn a living Farmers need to spend more money on irrigation and food prices go up Some food products need to be imported as supplies dwindle in Australia
