Introduction to the Unit 3.2 Analyse This
Pre Task 1 – Gathering Thoughts Refer students to the assessment criteria for excellence. This asks you to critically examine the role of biomechanical analysis as a means to performance improvement.
Consider the following: What are your thoughts and ideas about biomechanical analysis? Who/what do you think biomechanical analysis is best suited to/for? Is biomechanical analysis relevant to you? Why/why not? Have you ever completed a biomechanical analysis before? If yes, what? When? Why? How? Positive? Negative? Interesting things that came up? Who/what has influenced your ideas/thoughts on biomechanical analysis? In what ways? (For example, coaches, media, school.) What do you think the potential consequences/implications of these influences are on you? Get students to work through questions and develop their responses. Pair/Share
Pre Task 2 – Gathering Data
What do you need to carry out analysis? Evidence Where are your videos? Are they good enough? Knowledge of Technique model performance criteria + Anatomical knowledge + Biomechanical knowledge
Knowledge of Technique Technique Analysis: What do you know about swimming techniques? Researching – gathering, reading, observing, identifying Presentation of research: Observation schedule Swimming strokes breakdown: Body position/core Legs Arms (Entry, catch, pull, push, recovery) Breathing Timing Give out hand outs on freestyle, breastroke, backstroke.
Student Task Using the handouts on the freestyle stroke, develop a detailed breakdown of the model performer. You must consider each part of the swimmer and swimming stroke to create a checklist.
