Merrill Academy Year 11 & 6th Form Launch Night Wednesday 20th September 2017

Welcome Mr McCaughey A little bit about me: 7th Year teaching at Merrill Academy Curriculum Leader of Mathematics Raising Standards Leader for Key Stage 4.

What is Success? Success is an iceberg. What do people see on the surface? Confidence, wealth, relationships, seniority … the list goes on. But the key to success is not what people can see, but what people don’t see hiding below the surface.

Resilience How many times can you get knocked down but get back up again?

How can you help your child and prepare them to perform? Being a role model Help them set goals Keep them active Healthy eating Time out Sleep patterns Unplugging Staying cool & calm Belief Be supportive Each day you can support your child to make choices which can impact how they perform during the exam period

Success will only happen if we all work as team Work with honesty – Always give 100% effort to your work and presentation Ask questions - That’s what we’re here for. Our uniform is impeccable at all times. Blazers must be worn at all times around the Academy. Be proud to represent your school and your family. You are all role models to the younger students

Steps to success 2017/2018 September 2017 – There will be catch up sessions running every evening after school. Period 5 on Wednesday afternoons are also dedicated to helping our year 11 students with extra catch up/Intervention lessons October 2017 Walking Talking Mocks- We will talk our students through their exam papers to build up their resilience and their confidence November/December 2017 Mock Exams – All students will complete mock exams in the hall under the same exam conditions that they would get in the summer. 18th January 2018 Mock Results Day- Students will receive their mock results similar to the actual results day on 23rd August 2018. March 2018 - Rewards Trip- All work and no play ……. Our hard work should be celebrated and Year 11 will have a fun day away from school. Easter Holidays 2018- Revision sessions will be taking place during the second week of holiday ( All Parents will receive a letter about this) April 2018 – Mock Exams – Students will sit their second full set of mock exam papers. April/May 2018 – Final revision sessions in preparation for the summer examinations. August 23rd 2018 – Results Day.

Things to get you started Write out a revision timetable. Set aside a minimum of 30 mins a week for every subject. We will give each of you a revision timetable Be Pro- Active, go and find that teacher and ask for help rather than teachers having to find you Set yourself daily goals Start revising now. Don’t make the mistake that many year 11 students do and leave it until after Christmas

Countdown to the exam!! https://days.to/16-may/2018

Revision Demonstrations (Main Corridor) Year 11 staff will show you different revision techniques that we will be using throughout the year Please go and speak to staff about any questions you have regarding subjects or revision Make sure you take a blank revision timetable and start setting your goals today.
