US decision President Truman (took over when Roosevelt died in office)- 1945 3 Options Negotiate a peace with Japan- Japanese leaders were not willing to negotiate Invade Japan- Soviet Union had agreed to help but this would lead to more deaths of Allied soldiers Use atomic bomb- new technology, result in many deaths in Japan Truman decides to use the bomb
