Class Rules Mrs. Ramos 2016-2017

1. Be Respectful 2. Be Responsible Class Rules 1. Be Respectful 2. Be Responsible 3. Be Resourceful 4. Be Productive

No sleeping in class! You’re here to learn! Be Respectful To me (personal space & personal items) To each other (personal space & personal items) Do not prevent others from learning Listen when I am speaking (Hands Up) Participate Ask for permission to leave your seat Be Responsible Come to class on time Bring materials Complete assignments Check grades regularly Pay attention and participate No excuses! No sleeping in class! You’re here to learn!

Consequences 1st offense– verbal warning 2nd offense– teacher/student conference 3rd offense– parent communication 4th offense– office referral *Extreme offense will result in office referral. I reserve the right to skip steps based on behavior.

Tardy Policy You must be in your seat when the bell rings. If you choose to go to the bathroom in between classes it is your responsibility to get back to class and find your seat on time. Go directly to the office for a tardy slip if you are not in your seat by the tardy bell.

Cell Phones/Electronics BYOD (with permission only) No charging of devices Devices should not be out and visible during class. 1st violation = 24 hour confiscation, parent must pick up device and pay $15 fine. 2nd violation = 48 hour confiscation, parent must pick up device and pay $15 fine. 3rd violation = confiscation until last day of school (no exceptions).

Seriously though…this is how I react when I catch you using a cell phone or electronic device in class.

Behavior Do not talk while I am teaching or when others are working. Do not get up and roam freely around the classroom, you must ask permission to be out of your seat unless you are turning in an assignment. Be respectful to your teacher and your classmates—BULLYING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. “Everyone loves gossip until they become the target” In the event that I am absent you must respect the substitute and all classroom items.

Come to school! Excused absences: Minor grades a day for a day (up to five days) Major grades 3 days Unexcused absences: makeup work will not be accepted unless there are extenuating circumstances (the grade for makeup work will be no higher than a 70)

Take care of business!

Tutoring I am available after school Monday- Thursday or by appointment. Please, please, please, come in and get tutoring when needed!

Bathroom You have 7 minutes in between classes to use the restroom. Use your time, not my time! There will be limited bathroom breaks allowed in this class, unless you provide a doctor’s note indicating that you have to go. Do not ask me to go the first or the last 15 minutes of class.

Food & Drinks Absolutely no drinks other than bottled water allowed in class. I understand that sometimes you may be hungry. IF this is the case, you may quickly eat a small snack. If you abuse the privilege or leave a mess behind, all food and drinks will be banned from the classroom and you will forever be known as “that guy.”

My Bubble Please stay away from my desk and my things.

Dismissal Do not begin pack up early. Chairs must be orderly and there should be no trash on the floor. Do not get out of your seat before the bell rings (no waiting by the door). I’ll hold everyone in class until classroom procedures are done correctly!

Pre-AP Summer Reading Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck Book annotations are due at the start of class. Please turn them in at the front of the room. Late assignments will be accepted with a late penalty of 10 points per day until Thursday. No assignments will be accepted after Thursday. If you did not complete your summer reading annotations, you are still responsible for reading the book. We will be having a socratic seminar and will complete SEVERAL other assignments relating the book. Go to the library before school or after school to check out a copy of Of Mice and Men.

And remember…

Questions? Comments? Concerns?
