Patterns of Fertility LEARNING OBJECTIVES Define the different types of fertility Describe the global patterns of fertility

Measuring Fertility

Key Terms Crude Birth Rate (CBR) the average annual number of births during a year per 1,000 persons in the population

Key terms General Fertility Rate. This in an indicator of the number of likely births. It is an index of the number of live births in a year divided by the number of women aged between 15 and 49.

Key terms Total Fertility Rate (TFR) This gives a figure for the average number of children that would be born per woman if all women lived to the end of their childbearing years and bore children according to a given fertility rate at each age.

Patterns of Fertility

Patterns of Fertility

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT Patterns of Fertility SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT More children are born each year in Africa than are born in the Americas, all of Europe and Japan put together. Worldwide, more than a third of a million new people will be born on your birthday this year.
