Objectives and Agenda IB 1.3 Vectors Agenda Assignment: Adding vectors analytically Agenda Homework review Vector Darts lab activity - a fun way to create a data set to practice vector component calculations. Assignment: Complete the Vector Darts Lab

Vector Darts Procedure Overview Prepare a paper with a pair of axes with origin in center and y in the long direction. Label the +x and +y directions. Tape to dartboard with +y directly up and the origin in the center of the bullseye. Toss 10 darts against board from at least 1.5 m away to create 10 holes in the paper. Try to hit the bullseye. The most precise team will get 5 pts extra credit. Any accurate team (w/in 2 cm) will get 2 pts extra credit. Draw lines between each of the holes and the origin of your axes. Number the holes 1-10. Measure the (r, ) for each hole and record in the data table.

Vector Darts Data Analysis 1) Find the average r. (lowest will get 5 pts extra credit) 2) For each data point, determine the x and y components of the dart position. 3) Find the ave x and ave y position for the average dart location 4) Determine the corresponding (r, ) for the average dart location. Any rave < 2 cm will get 2 pts extra credit

Questions overview. 1-4 are about evaluating your x and y results. 5 is an error propagation problem to find r. Additional help is available on separate sheet. 6 – 8 are about evaluating your r result. 9 is about sources of error.
