Parallel Circuits (part 2) L/O – To know how voltage behaves in a parallel circuit

How is a power station like a battery? Mine = Battery The mine provides coal which powers the power station The battery give the electrons the energy Trucks = Electrons The trucks carry coal to the power station The electrons carry electricity around the circuit Can you use this model to predict what will happen to the VOLTAGE in a parallel circuit? How would you make this a parallel circuit Power station = Bulb The coal allows the power stations to work The energy carried by the electrons lights the bulb The empty trucks return to the mine to pick up more coal The electrons return to the battery to pick up more energy

Plan an experiment to test your predictions Task Plan an experiment to test your predictions What happens to the VOLTAGE when you add bulbs into a parallel circuit? V1 Voltmeter Voltage (V) V1 V2 V3 V2 V3

What do you think the problem was with using a series circuit? Modern Christmas tree lights use parallel circuits instead of series circuits What do you think the problem was with using a series circuit? What do you think the advantages of using a parallel circuit are?
