Presentation transcript:

Reproduction and Life Cycles Sunday, 22 July 2018 Learning question: What is a life cycle?

Learning objectives: Recall that all organisms have a life cycle Distinguish between complete and incomplete metamorphosis, using insect life cycle as examples Describe the life cycle of the frog and flowering plant

Key words: Life cycle Growth Development Metamorphosis

Life Cycles What is a life cycle? the series of changes in the life of an organism including reproduction.

Incomplete and complete metamorphosis change or transformation during a stage of development. Complete metamorphosis 4 stages and organism looks different at all stages e.g. Butterfly Incomplete metamorphosis 3 stages and organism looks similar at all stages e.g. grasshopper

Frog Life Cycle Undergoes complete metamorphosis Spawn tadpoles  tadpole without gills  tadpole with legs  froglet  Frog http://www.kidzone.ws/lw/frogs/facts3.htm

Plant life cycles There are many different plants on the planet, but flowering plants all have a similar life cycle. Flower make pollen grains that contain the male sex cell. This joins with the female part at fertilisation and leads to the development of a seed Seeds germinate and grown into a new plant
