A Tutorial on How to Turn PowerPoint Presentations into Slideshows Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 A Tutorial on How to Turn PowerPoint Presentations into Slideshows

Microsoft PowerPoint is a wonderful program that enables users to turn simple PowerPoint presentations into animated slideshows in a few easy steps.

How To Set Up A Slide Show After opening up Microsoft PowerPoint, go to the task bar at the top of the page and find the tab the reads Slide Show. Select this option. Then select the set up slide show option.

There are six steps involved in setting up a slide show in Microsoft PowerPoint.

These the six components, which are listed in the chart below in blue, are show type, show slides, show options, advance slides, multiple monitors, and performance.

Show Type There are three different types of slideshows that can be created. 1. A slideshow presented by a speaker (full screen). 2. A slideshow browsed by an individual (window). 3. A slideshow browsed at a kiosk (full screen).

Show Slides This section determines whether all or a selected amount of slides will show during a presentation.

Show Slides Continued If the “All” option is selected in this section, every slide will show during the presentation. If the “From” option is selected, the user can designate which slides will show.

Show Slides Continued The Custom show option allows presenters to target a select group a people. If everyone doesn’t need to see all the slides prepared, a custom PowerPoint allows information to be presented as necessary.

Show Options This option allows users to decide how they want their presentation to show. The presentation can loop continuously, show without narration, or show without animation.

Show Options Continued Loop Continuously Selecting this option allows the slideshow to play over and over without stopping.

Show Options Continued Show With or Without Narration This option allows presenters to decide of they want to add commentary to a slideshow. All you need is a sound card and a microphone to add a multimedia edge to your slide shows. Prior to recording any voice narration, all slides must be set to animate "on mouse click.“ To ensure that you have no automatic animations set, you must repeat the following steps for each slide in the presentation:

Show Options Continued Click on the Slide Show menu and choose Custom Animation. Click on the first item in the Animation Order box on the Order & Timing tab. Select the On Mouse Click radio button under Start Animation

Show Options Continued Show Without Animation If this option is selected it simply means that no animation will be included in the slide show.

Advance Slides This section allows a presenter to decide how each slide should move forward.

Advance Slides Continued If the presenter wants to advance each slide one at a time, the manually option should be selected. If the presentation should advance automatically, the “Using timings, if present” option should be selected. This allows users select how much time each slide needs before it advances to the next slide.

Multiple Monitors Selecting this option will allow presentations to be run from one monitor and lets the audience view them on one or more additional monitors.

Multiple Monitors Continued What is Necessary A desktop computer will need a multi-monitor video card or a video splitter to connect an additional monitor. Most laptops have an additional monitor port built in. Refer to your owner's manual to determine your computer's configuration. Enable multiple monitor support in Windows. Right-click your desktop then select "Properties." In the Display Properties dialog box click the "Settings" tab. Click the additional monitor from the list then select "Extend my Windows Desktop." Click "OK.“

Multiple Monitors Continued Open your presentation. Open PowerPoint and select "Open an Existing Presentation" in the window that appears. Click on the presentation you want to run then click "OK.“ Start Presenter View. Click "Set Up Show" on the "Slide Show" menu. Under "Multiple Monitors" select "Show Presenter View." In the "Display Slide Show" list select the monitor you want your presentation to appear on. Select "Presenter View" options. For example, click the "Black Out" button to temporarily darken the audience screen. Click it again to show the current slide. Click the "Up Next" button to indicate which item will appear next.

speed for a slideshow. Performance This section gives options on how to adjust the resolution and speed for a slideshow.

Performance Continued On the Slide Show tab, in the Set Up group, click Set Up Slide Show. To reduce the resolution for the presentation display, and thereby increase the performance speed, do one or more of the following: Under Performance, in the Slide show resolution list, click 640x480 (Fastest, Lowest Fidelity), and then click OK.

Performance Continued 2. Changing the resolution may cause the slide image to shift slightly. If this happens, either choose a different resolution or click Use Current Resolution in the Slide show resolution list. 3. Under Performance, select the Use hardware graphics acceleration check box. If your computer has graphics acceleration capability, Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 attempts to use it when you select the check box.

Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 is an exceptional program to create professional slideshows and presentations!
