State of Libraries as Information Sources Less popular due to low government support most especially in the government sector: Poor Infrastructure Poor Collection Lack of Professional Librarians or no Libraries at all The alternative is: the rise of other media outlets

Power of Media Radio & Newspapers media is derived from its omnipresence especially with the advent of new information and communication technologies. wide reach and penetration and are regarded as primary sources of news and information. TV Radio Newspapers Internet , 90% visited social networking site (abs-cbn, 2010) Radio & Newspapers 78% have radio access but only 24% said radio is most credible information source Only 11% read newspapers daily [SWS 2003] Only 5% said print is most credible information source. [PULSE ASIA]

A “Media Nation” Television is King 96% of Filipinos have access to TV; in Metro Manila, it’s 98% 67 % said TV is most credible information source [PULSE ASIA] 42% of the poorest watch TV daily; only 37% listen to radio daily [SWS 2003] Radio & Newspapers 78% have radio access but only 24% said radio is most credible information source Only 11% read newspapers daily [SWS 2003] Only 5% said print is most credible information source. Not everybody stays in the island for employment Most places in the ARMM is associated with conflict Some opted to work not as librarians In the case of government libraries, employment is associated with politics

Where the government has failed? RA 7743 which provides for the establishment of "public libraries in every congressional district, city and municipality, and reading centers in every Barangay throughout the Philippines.“ Question: Is the government successful in establishing libraries in Mindanao?
