Still Life Photography By Chandler Cobos

What is still life? Still life can be defined as an image of arranged inanimate objects. Still life can also be defined as capturing images in action without animating them. Photographers working to achieve still life photos must pay attention to the lighting, textures and colors. Still life photography isn’t necessarily about the objects being photographed but more about their arrangement and contrast.

This is an example of a still life with great texture and you can also be an example of lighting. The right has more light on it than the left.

Still life image of an object’s movement without animation

Irving Penn: Iriving Penn is a well known American fashion and still life photographer. "A good photograph is one that communicates a fact, touches the heart, and leaves the viewer a changed person for having seen it; it is in one word, effective." —Irving Penn.
