God’s Love for You Romans 5:8 04/29/2007 Dr. Dane Boyles
God’s Love for You Introduction How do we know that God loves us? Man by nature questions the love and truthfulness of God. How can we understand God’s love for us?
God’s Love for You 1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. (Eph 2:1-2, NIV)
God’s Love for You 3 Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. (Eph 2:3, NIV)
God’s Love for You 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Rom 5:8, NIV) 19 We love because he first loved us. (1 John 4:19, NIV) God has given us an example to follow.
God’s Love for You The Greatest Proof of God’s Love – “Christ died for us.” It was Christ who died for us and not any one else. 20 The soul who sins is the one who will die (Ezek 18:20).
God’s Love for You God had a desire to forgive the offender 4 …it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. (Heb 10:4, NIV)
God’s Love for You Man could never pay the price for sin. It was necessary for someone else to bear the suffering of the guilty.
God’s Love for You The big question: who would be a substitute for man? It was God Himself who wore the crown of thorns & died on the cross.
God’s Love for You The death of Christ is the greatest proof of God love. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13, NIV)
God’s Love for You A Second Proof of God’s Love – “Christ died for us.” What are we that Christ should die for us? 34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34, NIV)
God’s Love for You The proof of His love is not in that He lived for us, but in that He died for us.
God’s Love for You His death was no common death. 34 My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me. (Mark 15:34, NIV) A death of disgrace. A death of unspeakable pain. A slow death.
God’s Love for You Most everyone abandoned Him. “I thirst.” My God, My God, why have you forsaken me. (Mark 15:34) “It is finished.”
God’s Love for You A Third Proof of God’s Love – “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:6-7) Think about what kind of sinners Christ died for . . .
God’s Love for You Christ died for… Continual sinners. Sinners against knowledge. Sinners against the very person who died for us.
God’s Love for You 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. (Isaiah 53:5, NIV) Rejecters of the gospel.
God’s Love for You The fact that Christ died for sinners is special proof of His love. God did not consider man’s merit when Christ died. God had nothing to gain by saving man.
God’s Love for You Christ died for us, unasked. 18 “Come now, let us reason together,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. (Isaiah 1:18, NIV) God is still asking man to be saved.
God’s Love for You Conclusion The gospel is for everyone! You are saved by the gospel. The gospel is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Cor 15:1-4).
God’s Love for You 22 “Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. (Acts 2:22, NIV)
God’s Love for You 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. (Acts 2:23, NIV)
God’s Love for You 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. (Acts 2:24, NIV)
God’s Love for You The gospel is something that must be obeyed. 8 He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. (2 Thess 1:8, NIV)
God’s Love for You 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37, NIV)
God’s Love for You 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:37-38, NIV)
God’s Love for You 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off-for all whom the Lord our God will call.” (Acts 2:37-39, NIV) God is calling you today!
