Flairs? Flairs are the DANCE TEAM at Cypress Park High School Year Round Program Morning Practice from 6 am – 8 am Established in January 2017 with 10 members Membership is by Tryout Only Governed by CFISD Dance Team Guidelines & Flairs Handbook Ability to earn a Letter Jacket

Flairs year in Review football Season (Aug – Nov) Football Games Flairs will attend and perform at all VARSITY Football Games Band rehearsals are after school the day before a football game Football Games are likely to be on Thursday’s, Friday’s & Saturday’s Flairs stay after school on game day to get ready and bond as a team (dinner provided) Junior Flairs: Kids in Elementary & Middle school will be invited to sit with the Flairettes in the football stands during the 1st half of the game and participate in all stand activities. Contest Choreography Flairs will begin learning contest routines (Line camp, September, October) After school and Saturdays

Flairs year in review Contest Season (Nov – March) 3 Team Routines (styles varies each year) Compete at 2 – 3 contest a year Flairs have the option of competing solo/duets/trios/small ensembles Practice every day and afterschool/Saturdays when needed Contest are in February/March   CFISD Showoffs January All CFISD Dance Teams participate Fundraiser $7 per ticket

Flairs year in review spring Show Season (March – May) Flair Affair (Spring Show) 1st Weekend in May Fundraiser for Flairs Flairs present dances from throughout the year   Junior Flairs: Kids in Elementary, Middle, Jr High & High School will have the chance to learn a dance to perform during Spring Show. Banquet: End of Year Celebration for Flairs only Induction Ceremony: “Flairettes” officially become Flairs and officer ranks are announced.

Summer Line Camp Expense $150 Out-of-Pocket Annual Due by May 25, 2018 Includes choreography (clinicians), technique master classes, leadership, team bonding activities and meals/snacks

Clothing Expense $750 First Year Only!!! Out-of-Pocket Expense Due by May 25, 2018 Includes all Flairette & Flair clothing Practice clothing, team spirit shirts, boots, hat, make- up, warm-ups, duffle bag, accessories, etc. Cost does NOT includes optional/parent items

Flairette Dues $100 Out-of-Pocket Flairette Semester Only Due by May 25, 2018 Includes all t-shirts (Flairette, Showoffs, & Spring Show), team activities, contest travel expenses/snacks, & Induction Ceremony

Flair Dues $400 - $500 Annual Fundraised Balances not fundraised will be paid out-of-pocket Known as “Fairshare” through Flairs Booster Club Payments begin August 2018 Set Schedule will correspond with fundraiser Flairs Booster Club will develop payment schedule Includes all meals for football games, contest travel/snack, social events, Banquet (Flairs Only), t-shirts (Football, Showoffs, Contest & Spring Show), out-of-town trip, uniform cleaning, etc.

Extra During the year Big/Lil Sister Gifts Homecoming, Contest & Spring Show Holiday’s Boo Buddies, Secret Santa, Valentines, etc. Letter Jacket Must be earned (see CFISD Dance Team Guidelines) Jacket is at the parent’s expense and optional Extra Items Tights, earrings, eye lashes, new items, etc.

Step 1 Requirement & paperwork Tryout Packet (White Copies) Tryout Packet DUE November 14, 2017 Flairs Tryout Application Financial Agreement Consent Form “Flairette” Regulation & Flair Handbook Agreement Physical Packet Copy of 1st Marking Period Report Card Must be in 9th, 10th or 11th Grade No SSC, ALC or U in Conduct Attend Each Day of Tryout Clinic & Tryout Above in addition to CFISD Dance Team Guidelines (Pink Packet)

Step 2 Tryout Clinic Dates: November 27th, 28th, 29th & 30th (Week after Thanksgiving) Times: 2:50 pm – 4:40 pm (Late Bus leaves at 4:45 pm) Where: CyPark Drill Team Room Wear: Full length tank top, black leggings, dance shoes or barefoot, hair in ponytail, no gum or jewelry (no rings or studs) Attendance is required each day!!!! Emergency or Illness – MUST CONTACT Ms. Grayson Will learn tryout material Perform a Mock Tryout on Thursday

Step 3 Flairs Tryouts Date: Friday, December 1, 2017 Time: Begins @ 3:15 pm Ends: Between 5 – 5:30 pm (NO LATE BUS) Where: Multipurpose Gym Wear: Black tank top & leggings, dance shoes or barefoot, hair low pony tail, no gum or jewelry Make-up: Smokey eye and red lipstick

Tryout Details Must attend full day of school on December 1, 2017 Exception would be School Sponsored Event Tryout Number Perform Splits & Routine in groups of 4 Tryout Process Judged by 3 impartial dance/drill team judges Tryouts are closed to the public Only hopefuls, judges, administrator and director are allowed to be present during tryouts Score up to 100 points per judge (Total of 300 points) Team Determined by Natural Break

Tryout Score sheet Hopeful will be judge on the following – 100 Total Points per Judge 10 points for each category Splits (5 points for Right, 5 points for Left) Grade Point Average (do not have to be passing to tryout, but will effect score) Kick Technique Kick Memory Dance Technique Precision Rhythm Memory Showmanship Overall Impression

Tryout details Administrator will tally and enter scores into excel spreadsheet No set number of members Per CFISD Dance Team Guidelines – All Decisions are FINAL and NON- APPEALABLE Tryouts must be “In Person” per CFISD Dance Team Guidelines Announcement of hopefuls who made the Flairs December 1, 2017 between 8:30 – 8:45 pm on the Flairs Website www.cypressparkflairs.weebly.com Hopefuls WILL see their tryout number if they made the team

Step 4 Becoming a Flairette Hopefuls selected on December 1, 2017 for the Flairs will become a Flairette Flair in Training for Spring Semester Flairette Class Period – Spring Semester Still receive same credit as Dance 1 or 2 Class period will be 3rd, 4th or 5th period…depends on Master Schedule Flairettes must successful complete the Flairette Semester to officially become a Flair in May Requirements Mandatory New Member Parent Meeting – December 11, 2017 (Payment 1 - $250) CFISD Showoffs – January 20, 2018 Contest – February 17, 2018 (Flairettes will observe not compete) Flair Affair – Rehearsal & Show May 4 & 5, 2018 Any other practices, performances or event that may arise Earn 100 merits No more than 8 demerits Summer Line Camp, Clothing & Flairette Dues paid in full by May 25, 2018 Increase skill level to that of a Flair
