Puritans New England Region-1629 Non-separatists Wanted to reform and purify the Church of England Strict and devout to their morals New members had to undergo conversion

Quakers Pennsylvania-1681 Followers sought refuge from English authorities Civil people who opposed authority Supported religious and civic freedom

Roman Catholics and Protestants Lord Baltimore founded Maryland in 1600 as a haven for Catholics Act of Toleration was passed in 1649 to guarantee toleration to all Christians Passed to protect Catholics, the minority, from surrounding Protestants
