Heroin Addiction By: Scott Wilhelm

What is heroin Heroin is an opioid drug that is either injected, snorted or smoked. Made from the resin of poppy plants then is refined to make morphine to form different forms of heroin. Final product look like a white powder Was made in search of a pain killer by German scientists in 1937.

Why is heroin addiction important to discuss Heron addiction is important because of the affect it has on people when people get hooked on it. People get hooked on the drug and do things that they wouldn’t normally do in order to get their next “fix.”

Short and long term effects

Who does it affect? Most heroin addicts are between the ages of 18-25

What does it do to the body? When heroin is in the body, it activities specific receptors in the brain called mu-opioid receptors. The neurotransmitters that bind to these receptors in the body affect pain regulation, hormone release, and feelings of well-being. Sensation of pleasure takes over the brain through these mu-opioid receptors. How much heroine is used and where in the body it binds affects the severity on of the heroin affect on the body.
