Periodic Trends

Atomic Radius- The distance from the nucleus to the outer edge of the electron cloud

Atomic Radius

Why does this make sense? more protons=more pull on electrons more shells=more size

Ionic Radius- the size of an ion compared to its original size

What are ions? Charged atoms based on the gain or loss of an electron or electrons Negative ions-gain an electron Anions Positive ion-lose an electron Cations

Ionic Radius

Ionic Radius

Ionic Radius

Electronegativity- The ability to attract electrons in a chemical bond Electronegativity- The ability to attract electrons in a chemical bond **Noble Gases Left Out

Electronegativity Which attract the most?

Electronegativity

Ionization Energy- Energy required to remove an electron (how hard is it to take away an electron?)

Ionization Energy Which elements are the hardest to take electrons from?

Ionization Energy
