Evidence for impacts and market research for bike share Supported by:

Behaviour change tool 66% of users ae increasing how much they cycle No big changes from 2016 - further evidence to back up PBS as tool for changing behaviour /normalising cycling / and providing the range of health, social and environmental benefits for relatively low investment We asked people what is about PBS that had encouraged them to get back into cycling key factors as expected ; Very low financial commitment to try it out Convenience of stations / position near off road infrastructure

Bike share attracts women riders And it is a tool for attracting more women to get back into cycling for these reasons

Reasons to bike share   77% said they felt fitter and 57% said they felt happier In time scarce world it allows people to get physical and mental health benefits efficiently while travelling

Trip Purpose   Although many people use the bikes for pleasure (28%) as well as commuting /business (around a third) and utility around 16%

Trip distance Distances are as you expect   Distances are as you expect Shorter those who are using in conjunction with PT Others doing a whole commute –longer - also dictated by where stations are and if they are in residential areas. Liverpool and reading had higher proportion of longer distances

Supporting Public Transport

Mode shift PBS mostly replaces last mile walking trips - a personal benefit to user offering convenience and time saving and where they replace pt trips its offering exercise If add up car / taxi /car lcub…

Car use reduction Showing PBS is contributing to reducing air quality, congestion and carbon reduction Which could be increased further with expansion of ebike fleets

Electric bikes Survey included q on ebike use but the number of responses was low so isn’t too useful this year. It did show that it is attracting users to cycle for trips they wouldn’t have previously due to topography, distance, need to be smart for work, lack of time or health issues.

Next year Dockless models Ebikes ??   Welcome input on design for 2018 – what do we want to know more about?
