Homework Monday, July 23, 2018 Play Outside!! Find a group shoebox Objective: YWBAT analyze how earthquakes travel through the Earth. Drill: Why are surface waves more destructive to buildings than P waves and S waves? Homework Play Outside!! Find a group shoebox

Answer As surface waves travel across the surface, they move the ground up and down in circles, causing the ground to move more than P & S waves.

Did you know…? Earthquakes are not a rare phenomenon. In fact, more than 3 million earthquakes happen each year, about one every 10 seconds.

Today’s Activities Drill Group read p. 196 – p. 201 Determine Team Name Finish Engineering Challenge Research Conclusion

Closure Arrange the types of earthquakes caused by the three plate-motion types from weakest to strongest.

Weakest – divergent Moderate – transform Strongest - convergent Conclusion Answer Weakest – divergent Moderate – transform Strongest - convergent
