Origins of Rome I.Origins of Rome In 800 B.C. Remus and Romulus founded the city on seven hills Origins of Rome The Twin brothers were raised by a wolf. They were the sons of a Latin woman and the God Mars – making Rome a city that originated from a God

I.Origins of Rome The Peninsula of Italy was broken up into Etruscans, and Greeks. They merged together creating the first Romans Rome was located on the Italian peninsula along the Mediterranean Sea

Structure of the republic Birth of the Republic Senate, populace, republic The Republic started in 509 B.C. “that which belongs to the people.” A republic is a form of government in which citizens have the power to elect their leaders Romans overthrow the Etruscan ruler, Tarquin. iv.The Culture of Ancient Rome - art Roman architecture borrowed heavily from Greek styles Romans improved other architectural devices like arches and columns Romans also used concrete to build doomed structures like the Pantheon

iv.The Culture of Ancient Rome The Pantheon was build during the reign of Augustus. This was the first free-standing domed structure in the Ancient World! The dome had a hole in the top of it called an Oculus. The dome is 20 feet thick at the base and about 1 foot thick at the oculus. It is an architectural marvel!
