The 2016 shortlist! Phoenix by SF Said In a galaxy where Humans and Aliens are at war, can Lucky, along with an Alien warrior girl, save the worlds? (Accelerated Reader level 4.9) Whistling in the Dark by Shirley Hughes Joan's home is under threat from the Nazi's terrifying nightly air-raids. It is not an easy time to be a teenager, especially when an army deserter is found lurking near their home. Who is he and why does he think Joan can help him? (Accelerated Reader 5.9) The boy in the tower by Polly Ho-Yen Ade loves living at the top of a tower block, but one day other tower blocks start falling down around him. Strange, menacing plants appear. And now his tower isn't safe any more. Ade and his mum are trapped and there seems no way out. (Accelerated Reader level 5.3) The shortlisted books have been chosen by Haringey school and public librarians as suitable for school years 5 – 7, based on current trends, award nominations and interesting content.
