Definition What is an e-book? An electronic book (variously: e-book, eBook, ebook, digital book, or even e- edition) is a book-length publication in digital form, consisting of text, images, or both, and produced on, published through, and readable on computers or other electronic devices. Could be a print version or digitally born.

Survey Chapter 1: Value of e-books for EDC - use of e-books is wide spread because EDC is usually part of library - there are many advantages of using e- books: saving money, saving space, multiple copies

Survey Chapter 2: How to borrow e-books - borrowing/lending e-books depends on the library system - using different programs for reading and saving e-books also depends on the library system

Survey Chapter 3 : Creation of e-books - unfortunately no practice regarding creation of e-books - main reasons are: lack of staff, lack of budget and legal issues

Discovery services HI,I think one of the most important issues concerning access to e-books is to make them available through discovery services such as Summon and Primo. There was no question about this in the survey. It is vital that the e- books available through EU Bookshop will be included in the indexes of these search services as many libraries rely on them as their main way of accessing literature.Kind regards,Erik ÅkessonEDC Jönköping University Library

Problems and solutions Problems: different standards, formats, copyright issues... Solutions and advantages: cooperation, expertise, content...

Conclusion fostering cooperation using forums (knowledge base) making e-guides disseminating good practices improving and developing existing information structure towards EU discovery service reinventing the role of the EDC and embrace the change of paradigm from print to electronic
