3. Pigmentation Carbon black has strong tint properties, it is heat stable and suitable for plastic and film coloring. 4. Preventive properties against ultraviolet degradation Carbon black's absorption of ultraviolet light is excellent. Adding carbon black to other materials prevents ultraviolet degradation.

Process of Steam Activation The process of activation is carried out in two stages. First the coconut shell is converted into shell charcoal by carbonization process. which is usually carried out in mud-pits, brick kilns and metallic portable kilns.

MANUFACTURING OF GRAPHITE Natural graphite is not very plentiful. Carbon forms strong bonds with oxygen in carbon monoxide and especially carbon dioxide i.e. it oxidises easily. Nevertheless natural deposits do exist, and artificial graphite can be made in large quantities.

PROPERTIES & USESOF GRAPHITE Natural graphite used in:- High temperature lubricant, Corrosion and Heat resistant for chemical industry, Electrical Conductor for electrodes brushes and contact points, Nuclear reactors due to its moderating characteristics for thermalizing fission neutrons

Other uses are in:- Metallurgy Pencil production Refractories Coatings Lubricants Paint production Batteries Grinding wheels
