Finding books on Creativity A few ways to go beyond the recommended book list

Use the Bibliography provided Mostly these are books recommended by Prof Don Perini—found on your library website at: http://lgdata.s3-website-us-east-1.amazonaws.com/docs/1143/255287/Perini's_picks_on_'Creativity'.pdf Notice on this list of about 20 titles, that you will find the call number (in blue) indicating where the book is shelved in Miller Library (we have all of them.) A few such titles also indicate if they are ebooks, and therefore are accessible to read online. Here’s a sampling of 5 titles. Let’s take that first title to explore other options for finding more books on creativity.

A (partial) recommended reading list on Creativity call numbers (in blue) indicate book is owned by Miller Library Andreasen, Nancy C. The Creative Brain: The Science of Genius. New York; London: Plume; Turnaround distributor, 2006. QP398.A53 Bayles, David. Art & Fear: Observations on the Perils (and Rewards) of Artmaking. Santa Barbara, CA: Capra, 1993. N71. B37 Csikszentmihalyi, Mihaly. Creativity : Flow and the Psychology of Discovery and Invention. New York: HarperPerennial, 1997. BF408. Edwards, Betty, The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. 2nd rev. ed. New York: Tarcher/Putnam, 1999. NC730 .E34 1999 Starko, Alane J. (ebook) Creativity in the Classroom. L. Erlbaum Associates, 2005. LB1062 .S77

2. Next, to find more books on creativity click on “Show all Content” 1-If you search our online catalog (by ‘title’) for that first book on the list, The Creative Brain: The Science of Genius, you will get a record that looks like this: 1st, consider these other Subjects listed for related topics 2. Next, to find more books on creativity click on “Show all Content”

Now the record for this book on creativity expands to include books in our system that other students have tagged ‘creativity’: By clicking on this tag, I can retrieve an additional 192 books that are in Miller Library that other students have tagged as useful on the subject of creativity. (see pop-up box on next slide).

About 200 books In our library have been tagged “creativity” by library users

3- Here’s a third option for more books on Creativity: On that same page, see what “Similar Books” are listed, For example, “In the Theatre of Consciousness: the Work- Space of the Mind.”

4- finally, option #4 to find additional books on creativity: By clicking on this call number, you will find all the books that are on the shelf next to “The Creative Brain,” and thus, are probably also books on creativity or the brain! (see next slide)

So, using these 4 options, you’ll find at least a couple hundred alternative titles on the subject of creativity—all of them right here in Miller Library—including several ebooks!
