Grieving God

Grieving God The world of Noah’s day (Gen. 6:5-7) God observed his very good creation turn very bad (Gen. 1:31) Lesson: God’s grief did not overrule his justice (Prov. 11:21) Israelites that left Egypt (Psa. 78:40-43) After all they’d seen, they still disbelieved (Psa. 95:7-11; Heb. 3:7-19) Lesson: Once you’ve seen God’s goodness, don’t fall (Heb. 6:4-8; II Peter 2:20-22)

Grieving God Israelites during the judges (Judges 10:6-10) Their continuous cycle of sin became unbearable Lesson: God will not indulge superficial repentance (Matt. 3:8; Acts 26:20; Psa. 78:32-37) Israelites throughout history (Isa. 63:10) God was Israel’s Father, yet they chose other gods (Hos. 11:1-2, 7) Lesson: God loves his creation and desires salvation (Ezek. 33:11; I Tim. 2:1-4)

Grieving God The Pharisees of Jesus’ day (Mark 3:1-6) Too stubborn to consider Jesus’ message and works (Rom. 9:32-33; I Peter 2:7-8) Lesson: Tender hearts are open-minded, truth-seeking (II Chron. 34:27; Luke 8:15)

Grieving God God is grieved because he cares (John 3:14-16) Sin separates us from God, because he is holy (Isa. 59:2; Psa. 5:4) Gave his Son to heal the separation, yet many reject him Feel the same grief over sin as God (II Cor. 7:8-11) Sin is so common, it’s easy to forget how terrible it is When we are grieved by our sins as God is, we will be motivated to repent and please God

Grieving God Don’t grieve God By rejecting God’s invitation to be saved (Matt. 23:37-38; Rom. 10:21) By returning to sin after being freed from it (Eph. 4:30)
