Chapter 7 Review Questions 1. Mary forgave those who deserted her son; she sought reconciliation with them. 2. It was important because the Twelve Apostles represented the twelve tribes of Israel. 3. On Pentecost, the disciples and Mary were gathered in an upper room. Te Holy Spirit descended upon them and filled them with faith and courage. Immediately, they were emboldened and empowered to preach different languages to the crowds outside. That day, the Church was born.

Chapter 7 continued 4. The Sanhedrin orders Peter and John to stop preaching; a synagogue official takes Paul to the Tribunal on charges; Saul, a Jew from Tarsus, begins persecuting Christians; other conflicts occur in Palestine, Asia Minor, and in Europe. 5. Philip. He converted an Ethiopian who was returning home after having gone to Jerusalem to worship. 6. He received a vision of the risen Jesus, who asks why Saul is persecuting him. Paul becomes blind. He is converted to Jesus and is baptized by Ananias.

Chapter 7 continued 7. He was a Pharisee who believed the Christians were defiling the Jewish religion and blaspheming God. He believed in strict observance of the law. After his conversion, he believed wholeheartedly in Jesus as the Messiah and Son of God. He now preached the law of Love. 8. His conversion revealed the expansion of Christianity. It also showed that anyone can be transformed and used as an instrument of God. 9. To decide whether male Gentile Christians would have to be circumcised and follow dietary laws of the Jews before becoming Christian.

Chapter 7 continued 10. Gentiles did not have to be circumcised. They were required, however, to not eat food that had been offered to idols. 11. Barnabas and John Mark. Antioch. Silas and Timothy. 12. The graces won through Jesus’ Passion, death, and Resurrection flow through each sacrament. Christ continues to work in each of the sacraments thereby continuing the saving activity affected through his death and Resurrection.
