Mental Health Workforce Psychiatrists, APRN, PA’s, Psychologists, Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors Governor’s Workforce Workgroup Meeting Oct. 5, 2016 – CLICK HERE Data shows: 179 Psychiatrists, 24% solo practice (42), 40% age 60+ (22% plan to retire/reduce hrs) 535 Active APRN, 12% (64) Psych NPs, 18% (12) solo practice, 40% Agencies/FQHC, 42% age 60+ 310 PA’s, 1% Psychiatric Specialty, Work under MD license ~880 Active Master’s Level Social Workers (1020 total), 33% (290) solo practice ~474 Active Master’s Level MH Counselors (686 total), 49% (232) solo practice ~489 Active Master’s and Doctoral Psychologists (591 total), ~50% (245) solo practice

Total MH Workforce in Independent Practice 42(MDs)+12(Psych NP)+290(MSW)+232(LCMHC)+245(Doc/MA)= 821 MH Providers in full or part-time private practice Some % do not accept some or all insurance for payment Note: Dept of Heath Data LADC: 370 Active, 33% (122) solo practice. The majority of MH care for Vermonters is delivered by Licensed MH Providers in Independent Practice according to this data. The collaboration between independent providers and hospitals, medical practices, mental health agencies needs to be enhanced.

New Directions Non-MD Providers: PhD/PsyD, MA, LICSW, LMFT, LCMHC, APRN, RN, LADC Expected 20% growth through 2024. Unlicensed Providers: Rostered, Bachelor’s, Associates, HS Dipl, Peer Recovery Integrated and Collaborative Care Association of Integrated Team-Based Care With Health Care Quality, Utilization, and Cost (JAMA Aug. 2016) Core Competency Training Models to re-engineer current workforce
