DEMENTIA STRATEGY - FIRST STEP At the end of 2009 we became aware that Slovenia needs the National strategy for dementia The two doctors, neurologist and psychiatrist, and Štefanija Zlobec as carer of onset dementia husband (beginning before the age of 50) contacted the Committee of Health of the Slovenian government to start the preparation of the Dementia strategy
SECOND STEP On suggestion of the Health Committee, the Minister of Health has established the Dementia strategy working group in January 2010 In the Working group 10 specialists were nominated (psychiatrist, neurologist and representatives of Ministry of Health, representative of Ministry of Labour and Social affairs, representative of Pension and Disability Institute and representative of Spominčia) This was the first time that different specialists from various areas of dementia came together and started to discuss about dementia
THIRD STEP WORKING GROUP finished the Slovenian Dementia Strategy draft in 2015 In December 2015 Strategy was in public discussion In May 2016 the Minister of Health SIGNED THE STRATEGY
FOURTH STEP In June 2016 the Minister of Health nominated representatives for Action group for preparation of Dementia Strategy ACTION PLAN In the beginning of September 2016 group started to work
ADI At the ADI Academy in Geneve in June 2014 we discussed about slovenian National Strategy with the general secretar of ADI Marc Wortmann and he promised to support us On the initiative of the president of Spomincica the meeting with the president of Republic of Slovenia and Mr Marc Wotrmann was organized in August 2014 in Ljubljana President gave us full support At that time he also decided to act as a honorary patron of 25th conference of Alzheimer Europe
WHAT WE LEARNED AT AE MEETINGS In 2012 at Vienna Alzheimer Congress Spomincica got full membership in ALZHEIMER EUROPE What we have learned at the meetings? We learned how important it is to make public campaign for the strategy, not just wait that it will be done by somebody else In the last 5 years we were working intensively on public campaign for dementia strategy with different activities (Alzheimer’s Cafe, education programmes, trainings for volunteers, public appearances) and to raise awareness about dementia
EFFORTS OF THE WORKING GROUP FOR DEMENTIA STRATEGY The working group worked very intesively last year We made a lot of lobbying for Dementia National Strategy in slovenian public The MEPs supported us all this this time as well We reviewed dementia plans of other European countries Mark Worthmann, ADI general secretar came to LJ to give us support
PUBLIC CAMPAIGN DEMENTIA- PRIORITY OF PUBLIC HEALTH On suggestion of Spomincica, Alzheimer Europe’s pledge that dementia becomes priority of public health in 2014 was signed by all 8 MEPs GLASGOW DECLARATION in 2015 was signed also by MEPs and EU commissaries Violeta Bulc
PUBLIC CAMPAIGN DEMENTIA- PRIORITY OF PUBLIC HEALTH We are raising dementia awareness in Slovenia all the time! Glasgow declaration was signed by: More than 1700 Slovenians (best in Europe!) Minister of Health Minister of Social Affairs Ombutsman Vlasta Nussdorfer Mayor of Ljubljana Neurologists, psychiatrists, and many others
25TH ANNUAL JUBILEY AE CONFERENCE The proposal for the AE conference has been given immediately after we became a member of Alzheimer Europe in October 2012 The candidature was confirmed officially in 2014 at AE meeting in Luxembourg Memorandum for dementia was suggested by Borut Pahor on 23th of July 2015 we had a second meeting with the president who supports us in our efforts and strategy
POLITICAL SUPPORT Meeting with the President of Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor, Mark Worthamann, ADI general director and Štefania L. Zlobec in Ljubljana in 2014 to give us SUPPORT FOR DEMENTIA STRATEGY
CONCLUSION Action plan for dementia strategy has to be finished until June 2017 Implementation of Aims, described in Strategy In 16 and 17 September 8th Psychogeriatric conference in Terme Dobrna 21 September 2016 World Day of Memory Walk
