Basketball Score Sheet How to complete a Basketball Score Sheet This is a basic guide to completing a basketball score sheet. It is not a complete guide however it will provide you with enough information to assist you in learning the scoring process. This presentation is more easily understood if it is viewed in conjunction with a copy of the Score Sheet

The Score Sheet Team A Players, Time Outs & Team Fouls Running score for both teams Team B Players, Time Outs & Team Fouls End of quarter totals & final score

Recording Fouls – Basic (first step) Fouls are recorded for each player by writing a ‘P’ or ‘T’ in the respective foul count box. For each Player foul recorded, a Team foul is also recorded. The referee needs to be notified once a player or a team has five fouls. 2 P 2

Recording Fouls - Advanced Although not necessary at club level, the following additional notations can be used when recording fouls on the score sheet; P – Personal foul (no free throws) P1 P2 P3 - Personal foul (number of free throws) U2 – Unsportsmanlike Foul (2 free throws) T2– Technical Foul (2 free throw) D2 – Disqualifying Foul (2 free throws) B2 – Bench Technical Foul (2 free throws) C2 – Coach Technical Foul (2 free throws) F – Disqualification of a substitute (fighting)

Time Outs Time outs are recorded as they are taken. The amount of time left in the quarter is to be recorded. The team fouls and personal fouls tell some of the story of the game. Team has taken 1 Time out in the 1st Qtr, none in the 2nd Qtr, 1 in the 3rd Qtr and has 2 more available. Team A committed 3 fouls in the 1st Qtr, only 1 (by No.7) in the 2nd Qtr and currently 3 in the 3rd Qtr. No. 4’s second foul provided Team B with 2 free throws and so did No.6’s first foul. P P 2 P Phillips. B P 2 P P P
