Starfall.com as a Literacy Station By Heather Lewis 2009

Beginning in January 2009 students began using Starfall Beginning in January 2009 students began using Starfall.com as a regular literacy station. Each group spent approximately 10 minutes on the computer three to four times a week. Students practiced letters and sounds, as well as reading and sight word recognition. Background

These are just a few of the fun and educational things the Kinder students were able to work on at the computer station. Starfall.com Peter Piper Letter A I’m Reading The Web Site

Quantitative Data The average DRA level at the beginning of the year for all students was ~ 3, excluding those at a very high level. After recent testing all students have increased their scores and the average is now closer to 6. Although growth is expected throughout the year, it seems rather impressive that all students have made such wonderful growth. Quantitative Data

Qualitative Data Student growth in reading and writing has been a real sign of student enjoyment of Starfall.com as a literacy station. Overall, all students were very eager when it was their turn to go to computer Station. Student Surveys also provide evidence of student success and their feeling of growth over the year. Conclusions I feel that the time my students spent on Starfall.com this year was very beneficial. They were not only able to improved their computer skills, they were also able to improve their reading skills and letter/sound correspondence. I am very interested to try out other reading web sites in the upcoming years. Conclusions
