How animation affected the entire entertainment industry By: Dustin Davidson
When Animation Gets Attention! In 1906 J. Stuart Blackton made one of the first true animated films. It was called hilarious phases of funny faces, and it got producers excited and drew them to add animation to the entertainment industry.
Studios starting and failing Disney was actually a new attempt to make a successful animation studio by Disney after Laugh- O-grams went bankrupt in 1923, and Walt Disney wanted to make a new company that he had complete control over.
How animation was affected It was hard to get money and producers in the animation industry back then and keep an animation studio afloat financially, this usually lead to animation studios competing for both the audiences and producers money. Examples of such are the feud between with Walt Disney and Fleischer studios.
The shady bits In cases like Disney vs. Fleischer, things got a little… shady. With what started with little jokes in cartoons eventually lead to rumors of cults and even the stealing credit for the rotoscope. Bimbo’s initiation
The Rotoscope After some jokes about each other in their cartoons Disney started releasing, rotoscope animations and claiming on radio stations he had invented the technique and was in fact the first one to use it. Well actually four years earlier, in 1917 Max invented the rotoscope and the first rotoscope animation
Disney won. Unfortunately Fleischer studios shut down soon after this because of Disney the usual outcome of rivalries like this. Then Fleischer lost the characters betty boop, bimbo, and koko the clown. After one of them main studios they were competing with fell Disney skyrocketed in popularity.
Then A Renaissance! Disney started shelling out tons of new animated movies but taking hold of the animation industry; and making the entertainment industry change forever. And a lot of it is thanks to rotoscoping. Disney wasn’t the only one making animations, so was Warner bros. But not on the big screen, only on the screens of people at home on television every Saturday.
Today… Now the entertainment industry is mainly made up of animation not only in fully animated films but CGI in action movies as well. And now Disney has a strong hold on almost all of entertainment. Seriously now the company owns a lot of the big brands in entertainment you probably know.
