SkillsUSA Texas District 4 Cosmetology Contest Information February 17 -18, 2017 Texas State Technical College – Waco, TX

This information is being furnished for SkillsUSA Texas District 4. Note This information is being furnished for SkillsUSA Texas District 4. The contest information may or may NOT be the same in all SkillsUSA Texas District Contests. The contest information may or may NOT be the same during the SkillsUSA Texas State Conference

Cosmetology Skills Contest will begin at 8am Time/Location Cosmetology contests for SkillsUSA Texas District 4 will take place on FRIDAY, 2/17/17 in the Industrial Technology Center Atrium Cosmetology Skills Contest will begin at 8am Cosmetology Quiz Bowl will take place on Friday after all cosmetology related contests are completed.

Basic Info ALL COMPETITORS will take a SkillsUSA Knowledge Test prior to the beginning of their contest to be used as a tie breaker if necessary. PROJECTS MUST HAVE THE SCORE SHEET PRINTED AND TURNED IN WITH PROJECT NOTEBOOK THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN GRADED BY THE ADVISOR.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION In the technical standards for the National Contests you will see that it says “supplied by technical committee” over a list of things you will need to compete. These items will NOT be supplied at the District or State level. The contestant will need to furnish all needed items for their contest at the District Conference and at the State Conference.

Haircutting The SkillsUSA Texas Website has pictures of 3 men’s haircuts . http://www.skillsusatx.org/cosmetology-state-contests/ 2 cuts will be used for the Men’s Haircutting Contest. The two longer haircuts The longer haircut for the men’s will be used for the Cosmetology Contest. Haircutting All technical standards will be followed. Contestant will perform the following on 1 mannequin: Haircut # 1 - 40 minutes Haircut # 2 – 40 minutes Blow Style - 30 minutes Written exam of 25 questions from Milady Standard Cosmetology 2015 over Chapters 5, 11, 16 Written SkillsUSA Knowledge test for tie-breaker All technical standards will be followed. Please check the national website often for contest updates.

All haircuts will be performed on 1 mannequin Cosmetology Contestant will perform: Long Hair Design-One hour time All haircuts will be performed on 1 mannequin Long Hair Cut and Design-45 minutes Uniform Layer Haircut (90 Degree)-45 minutes Men’s haircut – 45 minutes Communication Skills-2-3 minute simulated work scenario Written exam of 25 questions from Milady Standard Cosmetology 2015 over Chapters 5, 11, 14 – 21 Written SkillsUSA Knowledge test for tie-breaker All technical standards will be followed. Women’s Layer Cut

Women’s Uniform Layer 90 Degree Haircut Refer to technical standards for the uniform layer haircut procedures. Contest will style the hair with blow dryer and fingers only. Steps must be followed in exact order.

Contestants must bring a model for the competition. Nail Care Contestants must bring a model for the competition. Model must be a paid SkillsUSA Member and registered for the contest as an observer. Student will perform: Basic Pedicure on one foot-Bring a unopened Gallon of water for procedure One hand of sculptured nails utilizing 2 colors (ex. pink & white) One hand of light cured gel nails with a tip Sculptured nails will be finished by polishing with red polish Flat nail art on the gel nails hand Written exam will be 25 questions covering chapters 5,9,10, & 25-29 from Milady Standard Cosmetology 2015. Communication Skills-2-3 minute presentation over natural nail care. Contestant may use a prop in describing the benefits of natural nail care products and/or services. Nail Art & 3-D Nail Art Follow guidelines in the Texas SkillsUSA Technical Standards http://www.skillsusatx.org/wp- content/uploads/2016/12/SkillsUSA-Texas-Regulations- 2016.pdf Written exam will be 25 questions covering chapters 5,9,10, & 25-29 from Milady Standard Cosmetology. You may use a practice hand for either contest. You may use a model for the Nail Art Contest. They must be a paid member of SkillsUSA and registered for the Nail Art Contest as an observer.
