What is Dual enrollment? Dual Enrollment is a program that provides funding for students at eligible high schools to take approved college-level coursework for credit towards both high school and college graduation requirements.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN DUAL ENROLLMENT? Enrolled in a GA public or private high school In grades 9, 10, 11 & 12. Meet the Dual Enrollment admissions requirements at selected postsecondary institution HAVE NOT already received a high school diploma Students eligible for Dual Enrollment are:
What type of student is a good fit for Dual Enrollment? Can articulate why he/she is interested in Dual Enrollment Meets college Dual Enrollment admissions requirements Can follow through on multi-step tasks Self-motivated / Self-starter / Mature / Organized Takes initiative / Is responsible Has a specific pathway planned for graduation Has sufficient transportation and can handle logistical challenges
HOW DOES A NORTH ATLANTA HS STUDENT PARTICIPATE IN DUAL ENROLLMENT? Step 1: Meet… It is recommended that you meet with your counselor to determine if Dual Enrollment is a good fit for you and that you meet the college admission requirements. Step 2: Complete… Complete and submit the college’s online Dual Enrollment application for admission by the Spring or Fall deadline (varies). Step 3: Submit… all supplemental documents (participation agreement, transcript, ACT/SAT/Accuplacer) required by the college by Spring or Fall deadline.
So… What is this PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT??? This is a document that has to be signed by the student, the parent/guardian AND THE COUNSELOR. The counselor is approving, on this document, the courses that the student will be registering for at the college. WITHOUT YOUR COUNSELOR’s SIGNATURE – you will not be admitted. MUST BE DONE by the deadline of the school application. So… What is this PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT???
STEP 4: ADMISSION Once students are accepted by the college…Students are advised by the college directly
I AM ADMITTED IN DUAL ENROLLMENT – NOW WHAT? Step 5: Fill out DUAL ENROLLMENT FUNDING APPLICATION on GA Futures website.………WHY?.......... So APS receives funding from the state to pay for the courses! https://www.gafutures.org/hope-state-aid-programs/scholarships-grants/dual-enrollment/ Step 6: On the College Campus / Online… Student registers for classes ONLY register for classes pre-approved on Participation Agreement! Student attends any required orientations for the college Student gives their school counselor a copy of their college schedule
OK – I did all that… NOW WHAT? STEP 7… Counselor assigns Dual Enrollment students to their college courses in INFINITE CAMPUS at NAHS. Why? So the courses show on the student’s high school transcript Counselor approves classes in STARS for payment Student receives paperwork from the college in order to obtain free textbooks for the classes
What Happens After the coursework is completed? Student completes the course(s) Final grades assigned by the college professor Take the Course(s) Student has a HS transcript AND a college transcript Dual Enrollment grades and credits on college transcript are added to the HS transcript. Grades are weighted with 10 extra points Transcripts Course credits are applied toward HS graduation requirements Graduate HS Apply to College (2 year or 4 year) Student transfers earned college credits to college they attend after HS Continue Education

WHAT IS PART TIME VS. FULL TIME Less than12 college credit hours Blend of Dual Enrollment classes on the college campus and HS classes at NAHS Need to coordinate Dual Enrollment courses with periods NAHS classes are offered Total of 12-15 college credit hours All/Majority of classes are taken on the college campus No courses would be taken at NAHS unless desired Student is still enrolled at HS and can participate in NAHS sports, extra curricular activities, clubs and events.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN DUAL ENROLLMENT? The GA Student Finance Commission covers the *COST OF TUITION *MANDATORY FEES *TEXTBOOKS FOR APPROVED CLASSES (students must meet all Dual Enrollment eligibility requirements) The college cannot charge the student ANY additional tuition or mandatory fee costs for approved Dual Enrollment courses Credit Hours paid for by Dual Enrollment – NOT COUNTED TOWARD attempted / combined attempted hours for HOPE and Zell Miller Scholarship at the postsecondary level
WHAT EXPENSES ARE NOT COVERED BY DUAL ENROLLMENT? COURSE RELATED FEES / SUPPLIES associated with a particular course. (these are different from mandatory fees – example – lab fees, materials, supplies, tools and equipment.…). NOT RETURNING A BOOK LENT TO THE STUDENT FOR THE COURSE. Tuition and Fees for a course NOT ON THE DUAL ENROLLMENT APPROVED COURSE DIRECTORY & NOT ON THE STUDENT’S DUAL ENROLLMENT APPLICATION.
WHICH COLLEGE CLASSES ARE APPROVED FOR DUAL ENROLLMENT? Students can take courses in areas including: Core subjects: English, math, science, social studies, & foreign language Career, technical, agricultural and elective courses. Examples: Managerial Accounting&Finance Food and Beverage Management Introduction to Plumbing Telecommunication&Data Cabling Automotive Engine Repair Intro to Cosmetology Theory Online courses offered by the institution WHICH COLLEGE CLASSES ARE APPROVED FOR DUAL ENROLLMENT? *Each college has different course offerings approved for Dual Enrollment
