General structure

These are some examples of ketone structures. General Structure Structurally ketones are similar to aldehydes In a ketone the carbonyl group (CO) is bonded to two carbons within a carbon base. In aldehydes, the carbonyl is bonded to one carbon and one hydrogen and are located at the end of either side of the carbon chains. These are some examples of ketone structures.

4 step Naming scheme Step1: Identify the parent chain, it must include a carbonyl group. Step 2: The parent chain is numbered from the end closest to the carbonyl group location. Step 3: Identify various brancing groups attached to the parent chain by their name. Step 4: Change the normal alkane « -e » ending of the parent chain to « -one ». Propane Propanone
