What do you do/not do in Ramadan?

Learning Objectives To Identify what is Ramadan? To Explain and understand the special virtues of the month of Ramadan. To create a short book about the spiritual, medical, psychological and social benefits of fasting.

What are the vertues of Ramadan? Ramadan is the (holy) ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It begins upon the visual sighting of the last full moon of the year and lasts 29 or 30 days, depending on the year. The holiday of Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the next lunar month. Fasting is one of he five pillars of Islam, and it is fardh (obligatory) for adult Muslims, except those who are suffering from an illness, travelling, are elderly, pregnant, breast feeding or Diabetes.

Note this: During the blessed month of Ramadan, Muslims all over the world abstain from all food, drink, and other physical needs during the daylight hours (such as smoking or intimate relations ) . But Ramadan is much more than just not eating and drinking: it is a time to purify the soul, refocus attention on God and practice self- discipline and sacrifice.
