Who, Where, what, how, and why?

WHO… AM I. Stephanie Martín. 27 years in the district WHO… AM I? *Stephanie Martín *27 years in the district *I have taught students from 1st through 12th grades

WHERE… DID I STUDY/LEARN SPANISH WHERE… DID I STUDY/LEARN SPANISH? *I began my studies in high school (for the native St. Louisans – Cor Jesu Academy) *I received my BA from the University of Tulsa, after completing my Junior year at La Universidad Complutense de Madrid *I received my Master’s from Washington University

WHAT… AM I TEACHING? ADVANCED SPANISH HONORS… Students engage in a variety of activities designed to increase their proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing while deepening their understanding of language and culture. In addition, students will complete a comprehensive review of advanced grammatical structures in Spanish.

WHAT… WILL STUDENTS DO. THEY WILL: Students will: WHAT… WILL STUDENTS DO? THEY WILL: Students will: -read authentic texts - listen to conversations by native speakers on a variety of topics -write informal and formal compositions -discuss, debate and present -use advanced grammatical structures, vocabulary and expressions to: engage in conversations, exchange opinions,, and provide and obtain information (spoken and written) *Study contemporary Spain though TV, documentaries, movies, music, the text: España contemporanea, internet sites and more *Demonstrate comprehension and express ideas and opinions regarding historical, social, and political information studied *Identify important people, periods and events in Spanish history and understand how they relate to life and social themes in current day Spain

- reinforce and further their knowledge of the elements of literature and composition, through the study of these concepts in Spanish -demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the cultures studied

HOW WILL STUDENTS BE ASSESSED HOW WILL STUDENTS BE ASSESSED? Homework, quizzes, tests, projects, presentations, etc… 80% Oral Participation, daily preparation…10% Daily assignments, binder checks… 10% FINAL EXAM … 20% SEMESTER GRADE CHS’S ACADEMIC INTEGRITY POLICY WILL BE STRICTLY FOLLOWED!

WHY AM I TEACHING? *”Sólo quiero regalar un trocito de mi verdad”… El Canto del Loco *My own studies of Spanish language and culture changed my life. * I honestly, thoroughly enjoy working with my students – your children. It is never boring! I always learn something new.
