Mark 5:21-24 (NKJV)  21 Now when Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered to Him; and He was by the sea. 22 And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet 23 and begged Him earnestly,  saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.” 24 So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him.

A Desperate Dad Mark 5:21-24

Father’s Day Today is the day set aside in the U.S. to honor our fathers It is first and foremost the day that we honor our Heavenly Father We know that good fathers are a blessing from God and we should thank Him for such

Father’s Day Being a father is an important job and certainly can be a humbling one Knowing that you bear the responsibility to raise up your children and have your families follow God is serious Can also have it’s lighter moments…

Father’s Day If we are serious about being a good father, then we likely will do our best to learn from others Certainly that includes any great examples of fathers that we read about in the Bible One that is a little more obscure is Jairus

Father’s Day We read this story of Jairus in Mark 5:21-24, 35-43 He was a man with a very sick daughter In his darkest hour we see him turn to Christ for help with this urgent need that he had

Father’s Day 1. Sought Jesus Jairus was one of the rulers of the synagogue Here was a man who was likely well known and well respected As a leader, he was probably used to being the one that others came to when they had problems, concerns and fears

Father’s Day 1. Sought Jesus So who would he turn to when he needed something? When he had a need he sought Jesus, knowing that only He had the power to heal Notice how he was the one to come and seek out Jesus, not his wife or servants

Father’s Day 1. Sought Jesus He bore the responsibility of seeking out Jesus on behalf of his family As fathers, we are the head of our families (Eph. 5:22-6:4) The responsibility to seek the Lord falls upon us

Father’s Day 2. Humbled Himself Before Christ When Jairus found Jesus, look at what he did in vs. 22-23… “And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet and begged Him earnestly…” What love for his daughter and what faith in His God!

Father’s Day 2. Humbled Himself Before Christ Remember, we are talking about a man who was one of the rulers of the synagogue Pride is a sin that can strike any one of us and keep us from doing what’s right Don’t be afraid to let your children see you on your knees!

Father’s Day 3. Learned to Wait on Jesus Jairus was desperate because the situation was urgent Did you notice what happened in verses 25-34? Not once do we read of Jairus rushing Jesus here or telling this woman to back off for his sake

Father’s Day 3. Learned to Wait on Jesus The situation was no less urgent when this woman did what she did Sometimes we have to learn to wait on God (and that takes faith!) Things don’t always happen exactly when we want them to

Father’s Day 4. Brought Jesus Into His Home This may not sound like a big deal to you or I Remember what many, especially the religious leaders, thought of Jesus at that time They thought Him a friend to sinners, a winebibber and working by the power of Satan

Father’s Day 4. Brought Jesus Into His Home He risked what others though of him, even his fellow rulers of the synagogue Many people today still do not view Jesus in a very good light This man was not ashamed to bring Christ into his home

Father’s Day 4. Brought Jesus Into His Home Ps. 127:1 – “Except the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it” Josh. 24:15 – “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” As fathers, we need to be sure that Jesus is in our homes!
