Communication Will be in Class Dojo Monitor’s classroom behavior: Log-in daily or weekly to see how your student’s behavior has been. Positive/negative behavior will be posted here. Phone calls home or e-mails will be reserved only for severe issues. Bloomz.com I frequently send out CRITICAL information about our classroom. To receive these you must subscribe. Both parents AND students should subscribe! Directions for subscribing is in the parent/student back to school packet that you picked up tonight. Will be in PLEASE MAKE SURE BOTH YOU AND YOUR STUDENT ARE BOTH REGISTERED ON BLOOMZ.COM BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS ON MONDAY!!

Curriculum Info. Math The entire math book can be found on-line, along with valuable resources. All pages incase your student misplaces a page On-line tutorial videos (important to watch if your student is absent) On-line practice lesson quizzes (optional and sometimes worth extra credit) On-line practice test NOT optional, must be taken during the specific time window given, result page (pg. 1) MUST be printed and ALL work must be stapled to it. May be taken up to 2 times, and I will take the best score. This goes in the gradebook as a QUIZ grade. Website: https://connected.mcgraw-hill.com/connected/login.do Flip the classroom Grading One chapter at a time will be in your students 3 ring MATH binder (only math should be in here) In the front of your students MATH 3 ring binder will be a “Math Record”. This record contains all of your students grades for the entire chapter. You may view these grades at any time, as your student carries this with them daily. Grades are taken as an average and on the “Math Record” each column will be averaged and that average will be put into the gradebook for each chapter. Selected Answers All students will have a “Selected Answers” key. This key contains all the odd answers to their homework. Students should use this key to check as they work, NOT AT THE END OF HOMEWORK. There should never be a reason why your student misses an ‘odd’ answer on their nightly homework. GFA’s If your student scores below 70% on a test or quiz, they may complete a GFA to raise their grades up to passing (70%). GFA instructions must be followed and the GFA must be turned in on-time or no credit will be given.

Curriculum Info. Science Grading All students need a PLASTIC folder with prongs & 2 pockets One chapter at a time will be placed in your students folder along with any other important worksheets that go with that chapter. In the front of your students science folder “Science Record”. This record contains all of your students grades for the entire chapter. You may view these grades at any time, as your student carries this with them daily. Chapter Projects – Some chapters will include a project that will be worked on in class and at home. Information about the project will be posted on our Bloomz.com. Grading Students will take quizzes for each section of their science chapter. Quizzes On occasion may be open book, open note, or we may play a review game right before the quiz. If this is the case, NO GFA’s will be allowed on that particular quiz. If the quiz is closed book/note, then a GFA on quizzes less than 70% may be applied. Tests – will be completed on-line via Google Classroom and will not be sent home. GFA – If your student scores below passing (70%) on a test, there will be a comment in the gradebook that says “GFA available, please set up an appointment with the teacher to complete.” Science test GFA’s must be completed at lunch on a date and time set up ahead of time with the teacher.

Technology & Character Education Chromebooks Chromebooks are checked out to 7th & 8th graders to carry in their backpack this year. Please try to have a backpack for your student that has a sleeve for a laptop/chromebook. If their backpack does not, please consider sending them with a sleeve/pouch for their Chromebook. Students who damage their Chromebook will be charged for the damages (example: cracked screen are $100 to replace). Please discuss with your student the importance of being careful with their backpacks (now throwing, no stacking, no leaving it in an area that might get wet or rained on) Character Education Each Monday this year we will spend one period focusing on character education. Schoolwide we will be reading the book “Wonder” (a movie coming out in December). We will be reading the book as a class and address key questions for each section read. This is a great book to also read and/or discuss with your student at home. If you are interested in finding out what pages will be read each week, so you can follow along at home, please e-mail me and I will share our year long calendar. 

Don’t Forget…… Please review our parent packet with your student. Please review PACK Planner with your student. Cell Phone Policy (turned off and on desk or backpack while on campus, not in pants/shorts pocket) Tardies – Gates locked at 8:00am Gum (not allowed on campus) Dress Code Policy (no midriff or undergarments showing at any time, no halter top, no short shorts, etc.) Please bring classroom supplies from the list on Bloomz.com on Monday morning (don’t forget headphones)!  Please complete and return the school information packet, as well as our classroom information forms by Friday, August 11th.

We steal their opportunity to have an esteem-building experience. Final Thought….. The surest path to high self-esteem is to be successful at something you perceived would be difficult. Each time we steal our students’ struggle….. We steal their opportunity to have an esteem-building experience. Dr. Silvia Rimm
