Cornell Notes Order of Operations PEMDAS P= E= M= D= A= S= KEY THINGS TO REMEMBER EXAMPLE: Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally Parenthesis Exponents Multiplication or Division Addition or Subtraction Always work from LEFT to RIGHT When working with division or multiplication*****DO WHICHEVER ONE COMES FIRST*** EXAMPLE: (25÷5 X 6) Work from Left to Right First you do the division 25 ÷ 5=5 division Then, 5 X 6=30

EXAMPLE: PARENTHESIS EXPONENTS PRACTICE PROBLEMS EXAMPLE: (25 – 5 + 6) When working with addition or subtraction****DO WHICHEVER ONE COMES FIRST Work from left to right Since subtraction comes first, do 25 -5=20 a. Then, do the addition of 20+6=26 Solve the equations inside the parenthesis BEFORE working any other part of the problem. REMEMBER: 3²= 3 X 3=9 125 ÷ (5² + 5² ÷5) +3=

SHOW YOUR WORK: PARENTHESIS 125 ÷ ((25 + 30 ÷ 5) - 6) 125 ÷ ((25 + 6) -6) 125 ÷ ((31) -6) 125 ÷ 25 5 INNER MOST PARENTHESIS FIRST WORK FROM LEFT TO RIGHT PE(MD)(AS) SUMMARY AND WHAT “ISSUES” DO I HAVE WITH PEMDAS
