WHAT DOES ‘COGNITIVE’ MEAN? *COGNITIVE: Conscious mental activities : the activities of thinking, understanding, learning, and remembering.

COGNITIVE-VOCABULARY *ANALYTICAL: You are able to carefully study something to learn about its parts, what they do, and how they are related to each other. *CREATIVE: You have the ability to make or think of new things or new ideas. *LOGICAL: You are able to think about or understand something in a reasonable way. (a science that deals with the rules and processes used in sound thinking and reasoning) *REFLECTIVE: You are able to think thoughtfully and carefully about something. *STRATEGIC: You are able to think things through for the whole or planned purpose and set up ways to achieve the goal.

PERSONAL QUALITIES CITIZENSHIP: COMPASSIONATE: COURTEOUS: Being responsible and respectful to people, animals, and the environment. Caring about your community and country. Being informed about the needs within your school and community. Doing your best to make your home, school, and community a better place. COMPASSIONATE: Feeling or showing sympathy and concern for others. You understand where other people are coming from in their feelings and emotions. COURTEOUS: You are polite, respectful, civil or considerate in manner.

PERSONAL QUALITIES DELIBERATIVE: To think carefully or attentively; reflect: EMPATHETIC: You identify with or share another’s feelings, situation or attitudes. Compassion, understanding. Ex: The play didn’t interest him as he could not feel empathetic with characters having such great wealth and high social status. EXTROVERTED: A person who is outgoing and likes to be with other people. Ex: Extroverts enjoy parties more than shy people do. GRIT: A person with ‘grit’, has perseverance, courage, determination, spirit, guts. Ex: The firefighters show grit each time they run into a burning building.

PERSONAL QUALITIES INTROVERTED: Someone who is shy. REFLECTIVE: Someone who is thoughtful, thinks through thinks carefully before making a rash decision. SELF ADVOCATE: A person who will speak up for themselves and tell their side of a story; or tell someone if they don’t feel they are being treated right. SELF DISCIPLINED: A person who has control of their self. A person who will NOT do something they know is wrong, even if they want to do it.
