10 Reasons Why Public Speaking is Imortant in Your Life

1. Increases your personal power & chances of getting what you want Speech is the single most powerful engine of our human existence. We view everything through the interpretation of language in action. 1. Increases your personal power & chances of getting what you want We gain power when we have the courage to speak and affirm our opinions and beliefs. “The squeaky wheel gets oiled.” Example: asking for a student teacher, a classroom, a certain schedule, books

2. Increases your self-confidence Increasing your skill at communicating with others automatically makes you more confident. As a result, others think more highly of you. 2. Increases your self-confidence

3. Makes you more comfortable around other people Public speaking skills transfer to all types of communication, improving your communication and reducing your shyness or awkwardness. (We’ve all had those awkward moments when we fumble and don’t know what to say.) 3. Makes you more comfortable around other people

5. Improves your chances of getting a job How you present yourself in a job interview will determine whether you get a job or not. Effective speaking skills differentiates you from other job candidates. 5. Improves your chances of getting a job

5. Attracts a tribe of supporters The better you are at speaking, the more memorable you’ll become to people. People are drawn to effective speakers and will support you and help you to be more successful. It is a basic human need to be liked by others. 5. Attracts a tribe of supporters

6. Expands your knowledge Public speaking is teaching and the best way to become an expert on a topic is to teach it to others. The preparation and practice that goes into a speech makes you understand the content that much better. 6. Expands your knowledge

7. Advances your career & increases your salary Effective speakers are promoted faster and earn more than their co-workers. Many jobs are related to sales and effective speakers are the best salesmen. Many people avoid speaking situations, so effective speaking skills gives you an edge. 7. Advances your career & increases your salary

Expressing ourselves to others is like therapy and reduces our overall stress levels. Overcoming the fear of public speaking gives us personal validation which increases self- esteem and reduces stress. People feel great after delivering a successful speech! 8.Reduces stress

9. Prepares you for the inevitable No matter who you are it is almost 100% certain that you will need to give a speech some time in your life. 9. Prepares you for the inevitable

10. Increases personal understanding “We don’t know ourselves as well until we’ve spoken ourselves well.” Part of self-awareness is being able to articulate who we are through words. Words help to paint the world we are trying to create for ourselves. 10. Increases personal understanding
