Aristotle’s Three Ways to Persuade Ethos Pathos Logos

Who was Aristotle? Aristotle (384-322 BCE) a famous Greek philosopher, scientist, physicist, and mathematician. Aristotle wrote on a range of subjects: logic, philosophy, psychology, politics, and rhetoric. He believed using rhetoric adequately could be an effective means of persuasion.

What is rhetoric? Rhetoric is the art of persuasion. The goal of persuasion is to change others’ point of view or to move others to take action.

What Are Ethos, Pathos, and Logos? Ethos = Ethics, Image Pathos = Emotions (Passion) Logos = Logic

Ethos, Pathos, Logos Using ethos, pathos, and logos will help you to master the art of persuasion. • Through language, you will be able to change the point of view of others! • Through language, you will be able to motivate others to take action!

Ethos, Pathos, Logos Find a partner. Choose a product to advertise: shampoo, a camera, a coffee maker, jeans, an alarm system, etc. Choose a strategy: ethos, pathos, or logos to persuade your audience to purchase your product. Write a paragraph of at least six sentences. Your writing should sell your product!
