Sermon Title Participate on Jesus’ victory through participating on His death

I. What is the meaning of death of Jesus?

(5:5) And one of the elders said to me, "Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals."

(5:6) And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.

Jesus Conquered (verse 5) Hears (Verse 5) Sees (Verse 6) the Lion of the tribe of Judah (Gen 49) the Root of David (Isa. 11) a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain (Isa. 53) Messianic King imagery Sacrificial death imagery

Jesus conquered the power of Satan as the prophesied Messianic King not by sword and military power but by His sacrificial death. (Isa. 53:5)

Answer: In Rev. 5, Death was Jesus’ major means and weapon to conquer the Satanic power.

II. What connection does it have between Jesus’ Death and us?

Answer: We, as the Church, are participating on the war of Jesus Answer: We, as the Church, are participating on the war of Jesus. Jesus is still conquering the Satanic power through our death. Our death presents Jesus’ death.

(7:4) And I heard the number of the sealed, 144,000, sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel: (7:5) 12,000 from the tribe of Judah were sealed, 12,000 from the tribe of Reuben, 12,000 from the tribe of Gad,

(7:9) After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,

Hears Sees Rev. 5 5-6 Lion of Judah and Root of David Slaughtered Lamb Rev. 7 4-9 144000. Census of 12 Tribes of Israel (Numbers 1-2) Multitude in white robes (Rev. 7:14,12:11) Comm. Military Image Sacrificial Death Image

(7:14) I said to him, "Sir, you know (7:14) I said to him, "Sir, you know." And he said to me, "These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. (12:11) And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.

The 12 tribes of Israel in verses 4-8 and the uncountable multitude in 9 are the same people. They are the army of the Lamb engaged the Lamb’s war taking sacrificial death as their weapon for the war.

III. How can we die for the world?

Answer: Love of Christ makes it possible (A mother who saved her baby wrapping him using her cloth and died for cold weather)

Conclusion: Story of Jim Elliot (The edge of the Speer)

The death of Jim Elliot and His friends and their wives represented Jesus’ death which is the ultimate power for conquering the world. As the result, the whole tribe of Auca came back to Jesus.

Prepare for you death. Through your death, the Kingdom of God will come upon the world.
