Getting to Know Us Carolan Grimes Kviklys Born in So. Phila.   Getting to Know Us Carolan Grimes Kviklys Born in So. Phila. BA in Special Education, LaSalle University MAT in Reading, National University 41 years of experience Lived in Savannah and Atlanta, Ga, as well as Vienna, Va. Currently resides in Marlton, NJ.

Heather Notte Born and raised in Toms River, NJ. BA in Elementary Education K-6, Kean University; high honors. Substitute teacher exp. for about 4 years. Experience in many different districts and classroom settings. Currently resides in Audubon, NJ

THE PLAN

READING CURRICULUM Follows the NJ CCSS Units of Study Reader's Workshop Launch Short Story Forensics (Informational) Biography War (Informational & Historical Fiction) Myth Poetry is imbedded into each unit. Students will be ask to read multiple texts and respond to a central idea.

Vocabulary Program! Flocabulary is an online learning program that delivers vocabulary building through educational hip-hop songs and videos. Extended hands on activities will also be used. Website: http://flocabulary.com/what-is-flocabulary/

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS: Read, read, read, and oh yeah, read. Status of the class Blogs, tweets, reading responses. Students read 30-35 books a year Extended written responses, two per month A book talk every month or at least two per marking period. Vocabulary lessons are usually on Friday and tests are given the following Friday. Packets are due on Wednesday. Ongoing comprehension checks

Writing Narrative Writing: Personal Narrative Lucy Caulkins The Reading and Writing Project, Columbia U Writing Narrative Writing: Personal Narrative Argument Writing: Literary Essay Informational Writing: Feature Article/ Research based. Grammar  lessons are infused throughout each unit. Follows the NJ CCSS
