Martin MATH 6A – PER 2 & 5 SCIENCE/HEALTH – PER 4 & 6 B-Read Math Triumphs Math Intervention Period 3 DO NOW ACTIVITY Use your flash cards to test your partner on Academic Vocabulary being used in this math lesson. Make the Story Problem organizer and highlight a problem you wish to share with the class. Use flash cards to test your partner on Academic Vocabulary that you are presently using in this Science lesson. Make flash cards that show how to divide fractions. LANGUAGE OBJECTIVE SWBAT evaluate expressions involving multiplication of fractions and decimals using the academic vocabulary: area, generic rectangle, ratio, dimensions, mixed numbers, product. Students will know that most earthquakes occur at plate boundaries when rocks break and move along faults using academic vocabulary: liquefaction and tsunami. Students will perform calculations and solve problems involving simple division of fraction using the academic vocabulary: quotient, dividend, and divisor. STANDARDS By the end of the week, students will be able to multiply decimals and fractions and find the parts of a part of each problem applying their skills to concepts in real-life problems. By the end of the week, students will know how to determine the epicenter of an earthquake and know that the effects of an earthquake on any region vary, depending on the size of the earthquake, the distance from epicenter, and building structure. By the end of the week, students will be able to solve problems involving division of positive fractions. ESSENTIAL QUESTION How can you solve real life situations by using your skills in multiplying fractions and decimals? Why is it important to know the various hazards from earthquakes? How do you divide fractions? HOMEWORK Do CPM Section 5.2.1 to 5.2.2, problems 5-39 to 5-65, pages 225 to 234. Complete the Math Worksheet on Multiplying Decimals. Make the foldable on page 243. Copy the Target your Reading on page 245 and answer all questions. Copy and answer questions 1 to 8, page 278. Copy Week 16 Academic vocabulary. Copy and answer questions 1 to 43, pages 27 to 31. Do Examples 1, 2, and 3 Your Turn on pages 25 and 26. TEST Your test will be the worksheet on “Multiplying Decimals”. Your test will be questions 1 to 12 on page 288 and 289. Your test will be Progress Check 2, problems 1 to 14, page 32. SPECIAL EVENTS We will check Thanksgiving Assignment Week 15 on Monday, 28 November. Extra credit: Make a working Seismograph and show how it works. I check all Thanksgiving assignments on Monday, 28 Nov 2016.
