iPads 7th yr Wednesday 31st August 2016

What has worked well? Electronic version of notes, past papers and mark schemes Work stored centrally and accessible at all times Greater ease of communication with staff Easy to personalise notes Research and storage of research available at all times Improving digital skills Able to use the advanced features of the iPad

What are the issues? Distraction - gaming, social media The different skill levels among both students and staff Some students do not like using technology - prefer pen and paper. Use both!! The use of technology compliments not replaces traditional learning and revision

What did last year's parent and student surveys say? Mixed reaction, some very positive, some saw positives and negatives, some only saw a few benefits What were the positives? Better organised, more ownership of notes, easy to research, good communication with staff and sharing work, iPad well integrated with normal learning strategies and good motivation levels. What did the negative group say? Easily distracted, preferred pen and paper, some relied too much on the device, didn't incorporate good study practice alongside the technology.

Conclusions An iPad can bring great benefit but it won't do the work for you! Sit down and discuss the advantages and any disadvantages of the iPad - make changes to your work and study routines if needed We need to continue to work in partnership student, parent and school to get the best out of the device

Online safety and security BT line filtered and monitored by Apple approved company iTeach Devices are monitored by a profile that we install We get a daily notification of all apps downloaded and will respond where there is an e safety concern A notification about deleting our management profile or downloading a virtual private network (VPN) - is a serious breach of your AUP
